Research-based recommendations. Our approach.
Start with what you have
For a morning espresso, the Breville Bambino handles extraction and manual milk steaming. The Baratza Encore ESP adds adjustable grinding for whole beans. These are two separate jobs: buy only the part your current setup is missing.
Keep an espresso machine or grinder that already does what you need. If you prefer drip or pod coffee, this setup adds grinding, tamping and cleanup you may not want. Pre-ground coffee with the Bambino's dual-wall baskets is another option; a separate grinder is not required for that route.
This guide is based on manufacturer information, not our hands-on testing. We have not physically tested these two products together.
The machine: Breville Bambino BES450
The selected US manufacturer version is BES450BSS1BUS1 in Brushed Stainless Steel. This is the Bambino, with manual milk steaming. The Bambino Plus is a different model with automatic milk texturing.
Breville lists a portafilter, tamper, milk jug, one- and two-cup single-wall and dual-wall baskets, a steam-tip cleaning tool and descaling powder. You do not need to add another jug or tamper just to cover those roles. Check the box contents for the exact listing.
The grinder: Baratza Encore ESP in Black
The selected US manufacturer version is ZCG495BLK1AUC1A in Black. Choose the Encore ESP, rather than the standard Encore or ESP Pro, if you want the model described here. Its manual assigns settings 1–20 to espresso and 21–40 to filter coffee. The right setting still depends on the beans and recipe.
The included dosing cup is used to transfer grounds into the portafilter. For a 54 mm portafilter, remove its 58 mm adapter ring; retain the ring for a 58 mm portafilter. The Bambino uses a 54 mm portafilter. This follows the manufacturer's described dosing-cup workflow, rather than a fit test performed by us.
Choose the basket for your coffee
Breville specifies single-wall baskets for freshly ground whole beans and dual-wall baskets for pre-ground coffee. If you plan to use pre-ground coffee, start with the dual-wall route and decide later whether grinding your own beans would improve your routine.
If you already have a grinder that works for espresso, keep it. The Encore ESP is an optional way to add adjustable grinding; it is not a required purchase with the Bambino.
Measure a working area, not just a footprint
Baratza lists the Encore ESP at 13 cm wide × 15 cm deep × 34 cm high, about 5.1 × 5.9 × 13.4 inches. Leave room above the hopper to add beans and space around it to handle the dosing cup.
The Breville US product page checked for this guide labels its dimensions W × D × H but lists 11.9 × 6.1 × 13.5 inches. The listed height is 13.5 inches; the width/depth ordering remains unresolved. Confirm both measurements before planning a tight fit.
Allow room to fill the water tank, move the portafilter and use the milk jug. Body dimensions alone do not establish the working clearance, so do not treat the two machines' listed widths as the complete space you need.
Check the US power specifications
The US/Canada Bambino manual rates the BES450 at 120 V, 60 Hz and 1,560 W. Baratza's US specifications list the Encore ESP at 100–120 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 70 W and 0.8 A.
Confirm the exact unit's voltage label and follow each model's manual. These specifications identify the versions covered here; this guide does not establish the electrical capacity of your kitchen.
Choose the listing, then check the details
The paid Amazon links on this page lead to the Bambino listing identified as BES450BSS / Brushed Stainless Steel (ASIN B0B1JPPG2L) and the Encore ESP listing identified as ZCG495BLK / Black (ASIN B0BW272XCV). Both listings showed 120 V in the November 5, 2026 check. The manufacturer links provide the US product specifications.
Before ordering, check the selected model and finish, US power specification, seller, condition, included accessories and delivery terms. The links do not promise a particular seller, offer or delivery date. Prices and availability can change.
