Research-based recommendations. Our approach.
Choose around how you make dressing
If you buy bottled dressing, you already own a mixing and pouring vessel. If you regularly make your own, a dedicated shaker may be useful. Our two recommendations are the OXO Little Salad Dressing Shaker for home preparation and the Bentgo Glass Salad Container for carrying a separated meal. The Bentgo's included sauce container means the shaker is an optional tool.
Start with the question you need answered: "Where will I mix the dressing?" or "Where will I carry today's portion?" Buying a shaker because the lunch needs sauce can create an unnecessary extra step. Buying it because you want a reusable preparation tool gives it a clearer purpose.
Use the shaker for a recipe you repeat
The OXO Little Shaker has a one-cup capacity and a lever-operated pouring opening. We recommend it for someone who wants to mix and dispense dressing from the same small vessel. Check that your recipe quantity fits this Little version rather than assuming every OXO shaker has the same capacity.
Make only the amount your recipe and storage plan call for. Capacity is a limit, not a recommended batch size or shelf life. A reusable container does not establish how long a homemade mixture keeps, and this guide does not provide a preservation recipe.
If you already use a suitable lidded jar and find it easy to clean and pour from, keep it. The question is whether this particular pouring format would address a recurring annoyance, not whether a matching accessory would complete the lunch set.
Use the included cup for today's portion
Bentgo includes a 3-ounce sauce container with the Glass Salad. Its carrying role is to keep today's dressing separate until you assemble the meal. We recommend using that included piece before shopping for another small travel container.
Portion from the shaker or your original dressing bottle into the sauce container, close it as directed, and return the remaining dressing to the storage conditions specified for it. Keep the full-sized preparation vessel at home. At lunch, add the amount of dressing you want and combine the components in the bowl.
Bentgo describes the small sauce container as leak-proof and the outer lid as airtight. We have not tested either. Do not turn the small cup's claim into an assumption that the whole lunch bowl is a guaranteed leak-proof carrier for soup or other free-flowing liquids.
Count the pieces you will clean
This pairing adds a shaker only if you choose to make dressing in it. The lunch set already has several removable pieces. Check whether you have space to wash, dry, and keep them together. If managing small lids is the part you dislike most, adding another vessel may work against your goal.
For a cold packed meal, follow the cooling plan in our salad-lunch guide. Separation improves organization; it does not replace safe temperature control.
